All you need to know about our NEW BOL Dinner Boxes
For a large part of 2018 the BOL team were working tirelessly in and out of the kitchen to develop our latest game-changing piece of innovation that would help deliver on our purpose to ‘inspire the world to eat more plants’.
Say hello to our new Dinner Box range, based on traditional British favourites with a 100% plant-powered BOL twist. The launch recipe inspirations span across the globe, from Japan, to Italy to India. Each Dinner Box is a great source of protein, has up to ‘3 of your 5-a-day’ and obviously tastes banging too.
Every Pot and Jar from BOL is already 100% recyclable and upcyclable, but, with this new range we wanted to push ourselves even further and reduce the amount of plastic we’re using too. Our Dinner Boxes are therefore made from the offcuts of the sugarcane plant that would have otherwise gone to waste, so its 95% plastic-free. The packaging has also been conveniently designed so that you can either cook it in the oven or pop it in the microwave. Either way, this should give you time to pour yourself a glass of fine wine or juice whilst you wait.

What are your Dinner Boxes made from?
Our dinner boxes are made almost entirely from Bagasse, which is the by-product of sugar cane that would otherwise go to waste. They use a plastic liner & film on top, a card sleeve and the Roasted Cauliflower Tikka Masala Dinner Box contains a plastic dressing pot.
Why are your Dinner Boxes only 95% plastic free?
We’re proud that our Dinner Boxes are 95% plastic free. We’re looking to reduce the final 5%, which is made up of a plastic liner and film seal, which are currently required to ensure food safety, quality and to reduce food wastage.
What is sugar cane?
Sugar cane is a plant that’s grown to produce sugar. It’s grown in the tropical regions of Southeast Asia, Polynesia and Melanesia.
Is the Dinner Box better than plastic?
Unlike plastic, bagasse comes from a renewable resource, which can be recycled with paper or industrially composted. We are all about driving change, and believe this packaging is the next step towards fully compostable packaging. The mounded base has a 40% lower carbon footprint than oil-based plastic, meaning that from creation we are already cutting down the CO2 impact.
Why can’t you go 100% plastic free?
The plastic lining in the box & the film on top keeps the food fresh and means you get the best food quality. Fortunately, technology is being developed to create these in a non-plastic format, but we believe this is the best solution while this is in progress.
Is the Dinner Box packaging Vegan?
Yes. All of our products and packaging are 100% vegan
Is the Dinner Box BPA free?
Yes. Bisphenol A is only found in polycarbonate, which is not in our packaging.
Is the Dinner Box reusable?
Yes. You can rinse out our Dinner Boxes and reuse them however you like. They make handy food containers and stationary holders, or you could use them to grow flowers or cress inside them.
Is the Dinner Box oven and microwaveable?
Yes, our Dinner Boxes are fully microwave proof and oven proof up to 200 degrees Celsius.
Can I compost the Dinner Box?
Yes. Our Dinner Boxes are industrially compostable, and they can be composted at home compostable if the liner is peeled off and removed.
Is the sleeve recyclable?
Yes. The sleeve is fully recyclable.
Is the dressing pot recyclable?
Yes. The dressing pot is fully recyclable
Is the Dinner Box packaging home recyclable?
Yes. The Dinner Box base is recyclable with paper waste.
Can all UK packaging centres recycle the packaging?
Our Dinner Box packaging is industrially compostable or recyclable at home with paper. However, you should always check with your local authority before recycling any material.
Do the BOL Dinner Boxes need to be refrigerated?
Yes, between 0 to 5 degrees Celsius.
How do I cook my Dinner Box?
Dinner Boxes can be cooked at 2000C in conventional ovens for for 20minutes or pop them in a 800W microwave for 4 ½ mins.
