What’s BOL all about?

We’re on a mission to make it easy for you to eat more plants, especially when you don’t have the time to cook from scratch. Whether you’re a meat eater or a vegan, we hope you like what we’ve created for you. We want to lead the plant-based movement, inspiring the world to eat more plants.

Where did the name ‘BOL’ come from?

Most of our recipes have been made or served up in bowls for years. BOL is our take on the world in a bowl. 

Why is BOL a plant based brand?

Over the past few years, we have become increasingly aware of the responsibility we have to change the way we eat, both for our health and for the planet. The more we understood the negative impacts of animal agriculture, the more we came to believe we could play a pivotal role in helping the UK eat more plants. We’ve replaced meat-based proteins with plant-based alternatives such as chickpeas, edamame beans and squash, whilst still creating incredibly tasty, nutritious and vibrant meals that contain natural and fresh ingredients.

Our mission is to celebrate what Mother Nature has given us, making it easier for everyone to eat more plants when they don’t have the time to cook from scratch. The new recipes are either vegan or vegetarian and attractive to both meat-eaters and vegans alike. Put simply, we need to eat less meat and more plants, and we want to be the brand that takes this movement from niche to mainstream.

We've also announced that by June 2018, BOL will be 100% dairy free. If you'd like to learn more about why we have made this decision, take a look at this blog post by our founder, Paul Brown. 

Why do you have cheese in some recipes?

Our range offers vegan and vegetarian recipes that are appealing to both meat-eaters and vegetarians alike. Some of our recipes contain cheese because we are aware that many of our consumers want and enjoy it. 

However, come the summer of 2018, BOL will be removing dairy from the entire range. BOL pots will be 100% plant based.

Are you stocked in countries outside the UK?

For the time being, we’re only available in the UK. Expansion is definitely on the agenda, so make sure to stay connected!

Is BOL packaging recyclable?

Yes. All BOL pots are recyclable, although we encourage you to upcycle empty packaging and give it new life. If you’re feeling proud of your up-cycling effort don’t forget to post a photo with the #DontWasteCreate hashtag and tag @BOLfoods. Our Veg Pots can be put in the dishwasher, but Salad Jars can’t (so give them a good wash the old school way).

Each recipe has its own product page where you can see ingredients, allergens, spice rating, nutritional information and more. Head to our product page to find out more.

Is BOL suitable for Vegetarians and Vegans?

Yes. All our recipes are suitable for vegetarians and some are also suitable for vegans. All our recipes are approved by the Vegetarian Society and have the vegetarian and vegan logos clearly marked on pack. By summer 2018 we will be removing dairy: all recipes will be 100% plant based, so stay tuned for updated nutritionals and recipes.

Do you have any allergen-free products?

We avoid using allergen ingredients where possible. We always ensure that the latest information is on our recipe pages and on the product labels, so please check these out for more info.

Do you use additives, preservatives or flavourings?

We will always avoid artificial additives, preservatives, flavourings or anything nasty in our recipes. We only use what Mother Nature has created, so you’ll be able to identify everything on the ingredients list.

What about dairy free recipes?

All our vegan recipes are dairy free (see above). Come the summer of 2018, all recipe will be dairy-free, so watch this space.

Are BOL products healthy?

We develop all BOL recipes in collaboration with acclaimed nutritionist Ian Marber (The Food Doctor) to make sure they are packed full of healthy goodness. Check out individual recipes for a full nutritional overview.
